What book am I eagerly anticipating at this moment? Why it just so happens to be…
Mechanica
by Betsy Cornwell
Releases August 4th, 2015 from Clarion Books
Synopsis:
Nicolette’s awful stepsisters call her “Mechanica” to demean her, but the nickname fits: she learned to be an inventor at her mother’s knee. Her mom is gone now, though, and the Steps have turned her into a servant in her own home.
But on her sixteenth birthday, Nicolette discovers a secret workshop in the cellar and begins to dare to imagine a new life for herself. Could the mysterious books and tools hidden there—and the mechanical menagerie, led by a tiny metal horse named Jules—be the key to escaping her dreary existence? With a technological exposition and royal ball on the horizon, the timing might just be perfect for Nicolette to earn her freedom at last.
Gorgeous prose and themes of social justice and family shine in this richly imagined Cinderella retelling about an indomitable inventor who finds her prince . . . but realizes she doesn’t want a fairy tale happy ending after all.
A Cinderella retelling! Only, like, steampunk! And Nicolette is an inventor. That’s cool. Instead of fireplace cinders, it’s workshop grease. Nicolette sounds smart and like a girl who saves herself. I’m excited to meet her.

I’ve never heard of this book but I love fairytale retellings! This book will be added to my TBR list.

YES. I saw this one at the end of last year and 1) massive cover love 2) a really different kind of retelling, it looks like. I haven’t seen any reviews yet but it looks promising 🙂

I’m also pretty curious about this one! I think I will wait to see some reviews come in before I make a decision to read it though, although the MC does sound pretty cool. Thanks for stopping by my blog 🙂
