Some things are worth waiting for.
Traveling thousands of miles from home to enter college is the only way nineteen-year-old Avery Morgansten can escape what happened at the Halloween party five years ago–an event that forever changed her life. All she needs to do is make it to her classes on time, make sure the bracelet on her left wrist stays in place, not draw any attention to herself, and maybe–please God–make a few friends, because surely that would be a nice change of pace. The one thing she didn’t need and never planned on was capturing the attention of the one guy who could shatter the precarious future she’s building for herself.
Some things are worth experiencing.
Cameron Hamilton is six feet and three inches of swoon-worthy hotness, complete with a pair of striking blue eyes and a remarkable ability to make her want things she believed were irrevocably stolen from her. She knows she needs to stay away from him, but Cam is freaking everywhere, with his charm, his witty banter, and that damn dimple that’s just so… so lickable. Getting involved with him is dangerous, but when ignoring the simmering tension that sparks whenever they are around each other becomes impossible, he brings out a side of her she never knew existed.
Some things should never be kept quiet.
But when Avery starts receiving threatening emails and phone calls forcing her to face a past she wants silenced, she’s has no other choice but to acknowledge that someone is refusing to allow her to let go of that night when everything changed. When the devastating truth comes out, will she resurface this time with one less scar? And can Cam be there to help her or will he be dragged down with her?
And some things are worth fighting for.
Wait for You is a New Adult romance book by the amazing Jennifer L. Armentrout, who writes NA under the alias J. Lynn. I’ve read one of her other NA books, Frigid, but I think I liked Wait for You more. Wait for You follows college freshman Avery as she befriends and falls in love with the hilarious and sweet Cameron. While it is first and foremost a romance novel, the plot that circulates on Avery’s past that’s seemingly catching up to her was handled well, even though I don’t gravitate toward stories that deal with such depressing subject matters. (It’s not too difficult to figure out what happened at the Halloween party spoken of in the synopsis… But because it’s JLA, I was still going to read the book. Duh.) I also should have reviewed Wait for Your soon after I read it because now I’m at a loss for what to say. So apologies if this review is short.
I liked Avery and I understood her actions and reasons. I liked how she grew some balls and finally took control of her situation with determination and self-acceptance. Cam was great, a total swoon-worthy book boyfriend who also had his own hidden demons. The supporting characters were great fun; I loved Avery’s friends Brittany and Jacob, and Raphael the tortoise stole the show!
As always, Jennifer’s writing is full of sarcasm and humor. It’s very accessible and quick to read, and all her characters feel current and real. I loved Wait for You. I’ll read anything by Jennifer, mostly because she does romance flawlessly while expertly balancing the tension and sexy scenes with good or great plot. I still think her paranormal and sci-fi books are her best (Lux, Covenant, Dark Elements), but her contemporary stories are fabulous, too. I’m always staying up late at night finishing her books. They’re just that good. ♦
So tell me…
