EDIT: Check out my review of The Sword of Summer!

Synopsis:

Magnus Chase has always been a troubled kid. Since his mother’s mysterious death, he’s lived alone on the streets of Boston, surviving by his wits, keeping one step ahead of the police and the truant officers.

One day, he’s tracked down by a man he’s never met—a man his mother claimed was dangerous. The man tells him an impossible secret: Magnus is the son of a Norse god.

The Viking myths are true. The gods of Asgard are preparing for war. Trolls, giants and worse monsters are stirring for doomsday. To prevent Ragnarok, Magnus must search the Nine Worlds for a weapon that has been lost for thousands of years.

When an attack by fire giants forces him to choose between his own safety and the lives of hundreds of innocents, Magnus makes a fatal decision.

Sometimes, the only way to start a new life is to die . . .

DO I EVEN NEED TO EXPLAIN MYSELF?! Rick Riordan has finally started his Norse mythology series!!! 😀 I grew up with Percy Jackson, graduated to Heroes of Olympus, and even read The Kane Chronicles. I have loved mythology since I was kid, and Rick’s books are awesome. They’re action-packed and hilarious. They retell the old myths and legends in a modern setting. I’m uber excited for The Sword of Summer. I hope Annabeth and Percy and a few other characters make some cameos in this series, seeing as Magnus is Annabeth’s cousin. Agh, I’m so just flippin’ excited! Norse mythology FTW. (But Rick — if you ever write a book/series about Chinese mythology, I’ll be able to die completely happy. My life will be fulfilled.)

  1. I have a terrible confession to make. I haven’t read anything by Rick Riordan since Percy Jackson. I KNOW, I KNOW. HOW TERRIBLE. I think part of my reason was because I loved PJ so much that I was afraid of reading anything else by him in case I disliked it. xD This one looks really, really awesome, though — it’s a series starter, right? So not a sequel? I might have to pick it up. 🙂

    1. I don’t think it’s possible to dislike a Rick Riordan book. While his other series are different and actually quite darker than PJ (because they’re more in the YA category, especially Heroes of Olympus), they’re still hilarious adventures. Magnus Chase is the first of a new series, correct, and it’s about Norse gods and I’m ecstatic because I love Norse mythology. Now I’m just hoping Rick delves into Asian mythology for his next series because then I can die happy. 😀
